In honor of New Years and all of the resolutions people are making. I've decided to share with you my journey so far in healthy living, dieting, and exercise. I've always wanted to get in shape, but never had enough motivation. Living with an Ecuadorian who cooked probably the best food I ever had made it very difficult to eat smaller portions and healthier food. But, I'm super competitive and my mother decided to make a bet with me. 25 pounds in 25 weeks was our goal. Whoever doesn't make it has to give the other $100. Being the Jew that I am, I accepted the bet. We officially started August 15, 2009. Here is a picture of me where I started. My fat ass weighed 202 pounds. My goal was to reach 177 pounds in 25 weeks.

The first thing I did was join a gym. I also cut juice, cheese, and processed carbs (the shit in snack bags), stopped eating carbs after dinner, and ate more protein/vegetables. I also began jogging 4 to 5 days a week for 30 minutes and full body weight training.

Unfortunately, luck turned for the worse and my mother broke her back. Thank god she turned out okay, but we had to put our competition on hold until she was back to normal. THEN just as she began to be able to cook, walk, drive, and take care of herself, I went to the hospital because of an intestinal blockage. I went on bedrest for a month and lost most of the muscle I built, but I did lose a lot of fat. I went all the way down to 179 lb. I still had a small tubby belly so I knew it was a lot of muscle lost from lying in bed all day and eating only yogurt and baby food. However, I have been back and at it for the past 2 weeks in the gym and I already gained back 6 pounds, all muscle. I took a picture today for all of you to see.

It is January 5th, which makes it about 19 weeks actual time, but the competition is still on hold. I'm still going to try and make it anyway by the 25th week. I am now 185 pounds.

I think I'm doing good, but so far I still have a ways to go. I hope these pictures motivate you all to do the same. Not only will you look better, but have more energy and get better sleep. I really feel 10 times better than when I did in my befoe picture. I have shit loads more stamina. I can go out for longer periods of time and sarge much longer than I used to.

Kudos...keep up the good work....never lift less weight than your last work out, work out until you feel like throwing up..and treat yourself every once in a while to something you like.

It's January 15th and I wanted to give an update. The bet is probably going to be called off, but at the same time, it's probably a good thing. My goal is to look like this:

But without the giant swastika tatooed on my chest. Laughing

I talked with a bodybuilding trainer who is a bouncer at a bar that I frequently attend for almost an hour. If I want to look like that, I'll need to actually gain weight. If I wanted to be 175 pounds, I would be pretty skinny and skinny is not what I'm looking for.

So this week I changed my workout routine. Intead of a full body workout and cardio 5 days a week, I am now focusing on a bulk routine, with much more intensive weight training. Basically each day I work out just a couple muscles until I reach a point where I am too weak to lift. Workouts generally last an hour.

Monday: Chest and Back for 1 hour or until I can't lift anymore.
Tuesday: Shoulders, biceps, and triceps.
Wednesday: Abdominals, Obliques, and legs
Thursday: 30 minutes of cardio
Friday: 30 minutes of cardio

I've been on this routine for a week now. The interesting thing is that I actually spend less time in the gym. I notice I'm eating a hell of a lot more so that's fun. The only problem is that my entire body is sore all the time.

What I learned from the trainer is that all of the cardio I was doing was inhibiting muscle growth. So I cut down on it and I'm spending more time weight lifting. Once I reach the size I want, I'll start a cutting routine and lean up.
I'll post another picture February 15th.

Good to hear you're working out brotha! Keep up the good work. Getting in shape takes time and if it were easy every one will do it!

I just started a whole new routine! I've been out the gym for like 3 weeks. Once you mess up your routine its extremely hard to jump back on it.

I have a couple way to improve your routine for better results. But if you have a trainer and he told you to do it like that then trust him! Trainers have very good knowlege, going to the gym and working out is having a relationship with your body, you have to get to know how it behaves. I or any pro trainer can give you great general tips but you must get to know what variations of excersices your body reacts to the best.

Today is February 15th. I am now 194 pounds. I think gaining almost 10 pounds in one month is excessive. From many sources I have read that the body can only build about .5 lbs of muscle per week. So If that's the case, I gained about 7 or 8 pounds of fat. Shit... lol I have been eating a lot more but I guess it's way too excessive. Especially considering I now limit my cardio. It's clear I need to adjust my diet so I don't wind up having to cut 30 pounds of fat when I go into my cutting routine.
